Elko Home and Business Expo
may 09 – may 10, 2015
ELKO — An array of products are being assembled to entertain and entice at the 34th annual Elko Area Chamber of Commerce’s Home and Business Expo.
More than 90 vendors are gearing up for the event sponsored by Frontier Communications. The expo is scheduled for 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday at the Elko Convention Center.
Vendor space has once again sold out for the event, and a new and diverse array of businesses are anticipated by the chamber.
“We have quite a few brand new vendors this year,” said Billie Crapo, events and sales director for the chamber.
The majority of the vendors to the event are local, though about 30 percent of the vendors have been drawn from out of town.
“What’s cool, I think about it, is you get to see all these products and services that Elko has to offer, that you didn’t know about,” chamber Chief Executive Officer Jennifer Sprout said. “I’m always amazed … every year.”
Vendors display items ranging from ATVs and boats to spas and jewelry. The event also includes cooking and product demonstrations, and incorporates a number of items geared toward children, from jumping houses to children’s booths.
“There’s a little bit of everything,” Sprout said.
Last year, more than 4,000 people came through the doors of the convention center during the event.
They are anticipating a greater attendance this year due to the growth the Elko area has witnessed over the past year. To complement this growth, the chamber is offering a greater number of prizes and giveaways than in years past.
Attendees will have the chance to win a $1,500 backyard giveaway donated by Home Depot, as well as a 51-inch flat-screen TV with a Blu-Ray Google DVD player donated by Encore Audio.
The TV giveaway is new this year due to the chamber’s recognition of the difficulty of finding housing in Elko, Sprout said.
“So whether you have a backyard or you don’t, you can still win a cool prize,” she added.
Individuals do not need to be present to win, but prizes must be picked up the day of the drawing.
Also new to the event this year is vendor Bingo, which encourages attendees to visit a number of booths if they want a chance to win a $500 Chamber Check.
Each attendee will receive a Bingo card upon entering the event and will be encouraged to visit all the listed vendors. Upon having the card filled out and marked by each vendor, the individual will be eligible to win the Chamber Check.
Numerous businesses help sponsor the prize giveaways for the expo, while Frontier helps offset the cost to rent the convention center.
The expo is one of the largest fundraisers of the year for the chamber and the proceeds come from vendor fees.
The event is free to the public.
